Paula Tavares nació en Oporto, Portugal. Es licenciada en Artes Plásticas – Pintura, por la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Oporto, pasando un periodo de beca Erasmus en Barcelona. Es Doctora por la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Pontevedra desde el 2006, con la tesis Las complejas relaciones entre el arte y la política en la cultura occidental. El arte político como contradicción institucional. Es artista, investigadora  y profesora. En la actualidad trabaja en el Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave, donde dirige el Departamento de Diseño, y el Máster en Ilustración y Animación. Organiza la Conferencia Internacional en Ilustración y Animación desde 2012.

Paula Tavares was born in Porto, Portugal. She holds a degree in Visual Arts – Painting, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Oporto, though she also enjoyed an Erasmus period in Barcelona. She got her PhD at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Pontevedra, Spain, 2006, with the thesis The complex relations between art and politics in western culture. Political art as institutional contradiction. She is an artist, researcher and profesor. Currently she teaches at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, where she is Head of the Department of Design, and the Master Degree in Illustration and Animation. She chairs the International Conference on Animation and Illustration since 2012.
